Skin Care... An Introduction

Since the early days of mankind, vegetable oils and herbs have been used to treat skin disorders and to retain the skin's natural beauty. Without prior knowledge of pharmacological properties of the remedies employed, it is remarkable how often the same plants were administered for the same purposes in primitive cultures all over the world.

For centuries the knowledge of plants and their properties were passed on through many civilisations such as ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. China and India still practice their great herbal knowledge today.

In the Western World our strong tradition with herbal medicine gradually disappeared when methods of synthesising plant extracts were developed. In the nineteenth century chemical drugs could be patented, resulting in high profits for manufacturers and little incentive to promote botanic remedies (a situation which unfortunately still prevails).

Today it is exciting and encouraging to see a resurgence of interest and study into plants and their healing properties.

Skincare... The Inside Story

Our aim and passion is to revive the art of mixing and blending plant oils, herbs and essential oils for their skincare qualities. We do not use any animal product neither do we test our products on animals.

We do not use any synthetic ingredients or preservatives, but prefer to use the natural preservative properties found in many plant extracts. Even though this gives a shorter shelf life, we feel this is a fair exchange for a synthetic free and more natural product. All colouring within our preparations comes from the herbs used.

We are dedicated to using certified organic herbs, plant oils and essential oils whenever possible and each preparation is made by hand.

In order to extract the full strength and goodness of their healing properties we infuse herbs into the plant oils for at least a month. A variety of oils and essential oils are then carefully blended for each preparation.

Our skin can absorb up to 60% of what is applied to it and a recent study suggests that an average woman can absorb up to 2kgs of chemicals through her skin every year simply by using everyday skincare products.

We are convinced that our ethos of only using pure plant extracts in all of our products offers a healthier natural alternative.

Organic Certification

In today’s world of sophisticated marketing and branding many skincare manufactures and suppliers promote their products with elegant and expensive advertising campaigns which often use reassuring but misleading descriptions such as “Pure", “Natural” “Herbal", “Botanical” etc. In many cases the products contain a cocktail of synthetic colouring, scents, preservatives, stabilisers, detergents, etc. In some cases products described as organic contain one or two organic ingredients in very small quantities.

This uncontrolled situation has caused much confusion for the consumer and has resulted in growing interest and support for the organic movement.

Only those manufacturers which can meet the impeccable standards required for purity and quality will be granted formal organic certification.

We are proud to be the first and longest established organic skincare manufacturer certified by the Organic Farmers and Growers Association which is one of Britain’s largest organic certification bodies approved by DEFRA to inspect a wide variety of organic operations in the UK.
