It all began in Holland ...

As a young man with a successful salon in The Netherlands in the 1960's, Paul's creativity was challenged to go beyond chemically based beauty products, which were used almost exclusively at that time. Consulting with Dutch herbal master Mrs. Herma Eeftink, who kindly tutored him, Paul developed his first non-emulsified shampoo. He tested it on his eager customers at “shampoo parties” at night, and they loved it. Being a novice in the shampoo business, Paul took the advice of a cosmetic chemist who urged him to add chemical emulsifiers so “the product would look better”. But Paul's clients immediately protested that the “improved” formula did not produce the same fine results and feel. He changed the formula back to the original and never changed again. He learned to carefully listen to the wishes of consumers and not to what some chemists were telling him.
